Week 4 Prompts # 15

15. You have a friend, lover, s.o., parent, whomever--and you have a magic potion. Once they take it they will tell you the absolute truth for one minute. Who do you give it to and what do they say?

Well, if I had a magic potion to make someone close to me tell the truth for one minute, I would have to chose my best friend Matt. You see, he and I have been friends for about seven years now, we even have nicknames for each other, mine is Mo, but he isn't always honest. It irritates me. I have always been honest with him, and honesty doesn't seem to high on his priority list. A honest person in my life is very important to me. He doesn't want to get caught in lies, so a lot of the time he just keeps on lying.  He dated this girl Courtney for about four years, and she hated me because he and I are such good friends and hang out all the time. After four stressful years, he finally broke up with her, and life was great again. After grieving over her, he finally came back to his real self. My best friend. Recently he has stopped talking to me, and this is because I believe he is seeing her again, but he doesn't want to tell me. He doesn't want me to be mad, or hate him, or be disappointed in him. All I want is the truth.
A magic potion would come in handy at this point. I don't know if he is just busy, or he is ashamed that he has gone back to her. If I had this magic potion, I would give it to Matt and wait to hear what he says. The magic potion would make him fess up to all the lies he has told in the past, and would finally give me the satisfaction of knowing what he is really doing when he isn't talking to me. He would say that, "Hey Mo, I am seeing Courtney again but I don't want it to come between us." Or, "Mo, I am sorry I have been so distant lately." He would finally be able to tell the truth about everything he has lied about in the past.
If a magic honest potion was real, I would totally buy it. I would make Matt drink it every day! Magic potions could come in handy in so many other situations as well. While attending EMCC, I was in a previous class and was accused for plagiarism. I clearly did not plagiarize, but the teacher would not apologize for wrongfully accusing me. If I could give her the magic potion, I would expect to hear an apology from her!

  1. I think you lose your way at the end, tossing in that last graf on a different situation for the truth serum.

I also wish you had given us more of Matt telling the truth, the way you do at the end of the next to last graf--and less explanation of the ins and outs of the situation.
